Knut Hamsun’s childhood home

Get an insight into how the famous author grew up on the small farm in Hamsund.

In 1862, that summer Knut turned 3 years old, he moved with his family, from Gudbrandsdalen, to Hamsund. Along the paths of this small farm, it was that little Knut began to orient himself in the world. His close relationship with the culture and nature of his hometown has left clear traces in his writing.
At Hamsund you can visit the house he grew up in, which today houses a small museum with objects related to the author and his family. You can take part in a guided tour, you can walk on the paths by the farm, or you can buy a book in the museum shop, and find a place to read in the house, or on a bench in the garden. Here you can get to know the environment and the landscape he often returned to, in his works and his memoirs.
